8 ounces of linguine or spaghetti

2 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped (plus extra for garnish)

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus extra for serving)

Zest of 1 lemon

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the linguine or spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Reserve ½ cup of pasta water, then drain and set aside.

    Sauté Garlic: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

      Add Tomatoes: Pour in the crushed tomatoes, add the sugar, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir to combine and let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
